Mattel is the largest revenue earner amongst the toy companies in the world, based in California, USA. Jointly founded by Eliot Handler and Harold Matt Matson in the year 1945, its range of toys has always been up to date with contemporary fancies of children. It has also been a forerunner in placing interactive and competitive toys for children worldwide.

History

In 1959, Eliot Handlers wife Ruth is said to have been the brains behind the range of the world famous Barbie, which has become synonymous with dolls. Mattel’s success is said to have started with picture frames and other dollhouse material made from scrap. . Its expertise and exposure in the field of toys for more than a decade made it graduate as a serious toy maker and soon became a publicly owned company in 1960. Surviving a downturn in 1975, the cause for which was an overambitious takeover of a software company to project itself as a growing financial entity, it resurrected itself by firmly adhering to the business it was already well known for. Later on riding on its enviable success of the Barbie range, which even today expanding its territories into developing nations. It got entrenched as a firm leader respected for its toys. Mattel & Fisher Price Toys joined hands in 1993 to become one single large entity enough to wholly buy out Tyco Toys which then was the third largest manufacturer.

Range of toys

Some of the most raging products in the stable are the Hot-Wheels collection of toy cars, Major Matt Mason, Master of the Universe action figures. There is a feel of live situation in the toys games that Mattel manufactures that entices children to no ends.
