Film producer

The term film producer can be defined as the person that manages the production of a movie. He will have to make sure that the film will have all the funds it needs, all the needed personnel and will negotiate with distributors as well. A film director is the one person that will be involved in all movie making phases from inception to completion. This is because he is responsible of a film for as long as it is during creation and sometimes even years after because of distribution contracts that have been signed.

Types of producers

Based on how they do their job and the methods used in producing the movie, there are several types of film producers. Types of producers that can be numbered include:

  • Executive producer – he is usually somebody directly appointed by the production company, sometimes even the CEO himself. This title can also be given as an honorarium to somebody that played a major part in movie production.
  • Producer – this is the person that (in most cases) has the biggest involvement and will oversee all the other producers. Sometimes he can even be the executive producer as well. This is the case of smaller production companies.
  • Co-Producer – he is the person that must report to the producer. The co-producer is more involved in the day to day activities such as making sure the actors have what they need the day of the shooting
  • Associate Producer – this is usually a person that was very important in creating the movie and is a title considered honorable
  • Production Director – he is a representative of the production company and has some powers, depending on contract
  • Line Producer – this producer is mainly into financial aspects and will have to make sure that the money being invested is put to good use.
