Founded in the 1890s, the Baton Rouge Magnet High School was a 20032004 Blue Ribbon for Excellent School know for its great extracurricular sports program which excludes football, baseball and basketball. The school also received a federal award in 2004 that recognized the schools performing arts program. Receiving this award enabled member of the schools arts program to perform live at the Kennedy Center located in Washington, D.C.. BRMHS was only one of five awards recipients on the national level.

A part of the performing arts program at BRMHS, two radio stations are located on campus. One is a Jazz station, broadcasting to the Baton Rouge area, 90.3 FM, WBRH. The other station’s programming includes primarily classical rock and the call letters are KBRH.

The magnet school, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana relocated several times throughout its history. Moves include a one from St. Louis Street to Convention Street, a second from Florida to Laurel Street, and the most recent in 1927 had the school move to its Government Street building. It officially became known as a magnet school during late 1976.
