1927 was a year that did not show many important positive events. The negative ones have been many and include the Mississippi flood, which affected around 700,000 people and a big earthquake in Yugoslavia that killed 700 people. 600 people were injured and 90 dead in the Massacre of July 15th, 1927. The United Kingdom also changed name and important winners of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine Were born during this same year.

Important Events

  • On the first of January the Cristero War started in Mexico with a rebel attack against the government
  • The British troops landed in Shangai on February 12
  • February 14th saw a powerful earthquake in Yugoslavia. The result was 700 people dead
  • 1000 British die of an influenza epidemic on March 6th
  • April 12th was the day in which, by vote of the Royal and Parliamentary Titles Act 1927, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland changed name to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • The period between April 22 and May 5 is considered as the time of occurrence of the greatest national disaster in USA history. The Mississippi flood was the reason behind it, creating effect upon 700,000 people.
  • May 20-21 saw the first ever Trans-Atlantic flight from Paris to New York, without any stop, being continuous and being done by Charles Lindbergh.
  • Kevin O'Higgins was assassinated in Dublin on the 10th of July.
  • July 15th – 600 people were injured and 90 are dead after a clash between police and left-wing protesters took place in Austria. The event is known in history as the Massacre of July 15th, 1927.
  • A total eclipse fully visible over Wales and Northern England on November 24th.
