The Beatles

From ArticleWorld

The Beatles was one of the most successful bands ever, originating from Liverpool, England. Their songs can still be heard today although over 30 years passed since the end of the group’s musical career. The incredible popularity The Beatles enjoyed was materialized through many successes and more than 50 top 40 songs. The band is considered to be the biggest musical act that existed in the 20th century.

History

In 1957 The Blackjacks appeared. They were a skiffle group formed by John Lennon. As time passed he met Paul McCartney and eventually George Harrison. After changing several names and members the established band was named The Beatles. They played several times in many Liverpool clubs until becoming known on the local scene. In 1962 the band signed a contract with London’s Abbey Road Studios. This is also when Ringo Starr became a member of the group after original drummer, Pete Best was fired. The Beatles were then created in the true sense of the word. In the summer of the same year the first minor United Kingdom hit was released, “Love me Do”. Time passed and eventually The Beatles became a huge success in the UK. The next step was USA. Several attempts have been made to make the band break in the American market but without any success. The first real hit in the states came with the song “I Want to hold your hand” and in 1964 the band went to America for their first concert. The week of April 4, 1964 made The Beatles establish a record in USA that has never been toped since. Five of their songs were occupying the top five spots in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. From that date the band established itself quickly as the best group at that particular moment in time. The last concert the Beatles held was on the 29th of August 1966 in Candlestick Park, San Francisco. After that the band decided to go into recordings only. They wrote some of the most memorable songs ever with “Yesterday” (written by Paul McCartney) being the most covered song in history. In 1967 the band’s financial status began to fall. This is mainly because of the death of manager Brian Epstein at a tender age of just 32. The same year, on the 25th of June the band landed another first in music history. They were the first to globally broadcast and be watched by over 200 million people at the same moment. The decline soon became obvious and materialized in 1970, when the Beatles split. One thing is for sure: their popularity was unsurpassed and is still very high today. Several fan clubs still exist and the Beatles songs can be heard in most cities of the world.
