St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is a fictional building in the Harry Potter series of books by J.K. Rowling. It is the main wizarding hospital in Britain. The doctors there are known as “Healers” and wear lime green robes. St. Mungo’s was founded by a famous Healer Mungo Bonham in 1600’s. It is located in London. To enter the hospital, one has to go through the glass pane at what appears to be a derelict departmental store by the name of Purge & Dowse Ltd. it is a magical gateway similar to the barrier at King’s Cross railway station for entry to Platform 9 ¾.
In order to qualify as a Healer, a Hogworts student must have the E grade (Exceeds Expectations) in Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts and Herbology. In addition, they probably have to attend Healer School too.
Description
The hospital exterios are made of red – brick and appear to be very dirty. This is done to presumably keep of muggles. Once inside, the hospital is as neat and clean as it should be. The emblem of the hospital is a wand crossed with a bone. In total, there are six floors to the hospital, each of which is allocated to specific departments :
- Ground Floor – Reception area. A plump blonde witch is the receptionist who greets everybody.
- 1st Floor – Creature Induced Injuries
- 2nd Floor – Magical Bugs and Diseases
- 3rd Floor – Potions and Plant Poisoning
- 4th Floor – Spell Damage
- 5th Floor – Tea Rooms and Hospital Shop

Some of the known characters, who have been treated at St. Mungo’s are :
- Arthur Weasley, when he was bitten by a poisonous snake.
- Professor McGonaGall, when she was hit in the chest by four stunning spells
- Gilderoy Lockhart, who accidentally wiped off his own memory
- Frank and Alice Longbottom who have been tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange
- Broderick Bode, a Ministry of Magic employee who was driven insane
- Nymphadora Tonks, who was taken there, injured in a battle with Bellatrix Lestrange
