Satin

From ArticleWorld

The term Satin is defined as being a cloth characterized with a glossy surface and a dull back. For the material to become satin it needs to undergo some very strict production processes. It needs to be produced using a warp dominated weaving method with a minimum number of fibers interlacing as a result. After that a filament textile (polyester, nylon or silk) needs to weave the fabric so that the cloth becomes satin. A common mistake in using the term appears when the yarns use short staple yarns like cotton. In this case the resulting cloth is defined as being “sateen”.

Satin bed sheets

The most common usage of satin is to turn it into bed sheets. In the past they were used by the royalty as a sign of their richness and nobody that wanted to be deemed as high society could not use satin bed sheets. Washing these special bed sheets becomes different because of the nature of satin. This type of material needs to be kept away from warm washing and bleach is usually not recommended. If one desires to use a steam iron to eliminate the wrinkles he/she needs to turn the temperature to the lowest possible, the surface needs to be 100% clean and minimum to no steam must be applied. Some satin bed sheets and cloths in general need to be professionally cleaned. One needs to know as much as possible about the care of the satin fabric he/she has so that the washing process will not damage it.
