Pumpkin pie is part of two national cuisines in America and Canada. Pumpkin pie is a seasonal dessert that is prepared in late fall and in early winter. Pumpkin pie is usually made for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Pumpkin pie is sometimes for Hanukkah as well.

Pumpkin pie has squash based custard that varies from the color of orange to the color of brown. Pumpkin pie is usually baked in a single pie shell and also doesn’t have a top crust on it. Traditional pumpkins are used to make pumpkin pies because contrary to popular belief, jack_o’-lantern type pumpkins don’t make good pies. Pumpkin pies are created with nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger and it can be topped with either whipped cream or vanilla ice cream or pumpkin pie can be topped with both whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Some bakers make pumpkin pie from scratch, however, it is more common for bakers to purchase canned pumpkin from the grocery store and follow the directions for making pumpkin pie on the back of the can. Libby’s makes a popular brand of canned pumpkin which is used in making pumpkin pies. In addition, pumpkin pies are a seasonal product that is available in both bakeries and grocery stores.

Pumpkin pie and history

American colonists took the top off the tops of pumpkin and removed the seeds and filed the inside of the pie with milk, a variety of spices and honey. This was baked in hot ashes and this creation was the beginning of pumpkin pie. In addition, a holiday song that refers to pumpkin pie as dessert that a man is looking forward to for Christmas.
