Pop music is a subgenre of popular music. The term is used to describe a number of songs that are labeled under different musical genres. For example a pop song can be one that is hip hop, rock, R&B, dance, country and so on. Pop music is one of the widest musical subgenres because of this inclusion of several types of songs under its branch.

Pop music covers songs that can be considered commercial. This means that any song that has success amongst many people can be catalogued as a pop song. Nowadays it features elements from different musical genres making it appealing to more people as compared with borrowing elements from just on genre. This type of music is linked with listeners more than any other because it is highly image driven. Basically, if many people like it then it is successful. As time passed pop music became mainly linked with image. Production companies started working with dancers, choreographs, image consultants and many more to create the perfect look for a particular artist or band. Veteran song writers have been contracted to write pop songs and target a specific audience. The technique paid off especially because of the employed targeting. Younger audience has different tastes compared to the older one and the image of the pop artists was crafted according to what they wanted. Examples of singers that have undergone this transformation include Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, The Backstreet Boys and many more.
