Nicholas King Nolte was born on February 8, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska. He is an American actor, model, producer, and sex symbol.

Early Life

Nolte was born to Frank and Helen Nolte and was raised in Nebraska. He attended Arizona State University on a football scholarship, then transferred to Eastern Arizona College, and finally to Phoenix College. Nolte did not make passing grades and soon his school days were over. It was at this point that he began to gain interest in the theater. Nolte spent 1957-1962 traveling and working in regional theaters throughout the country. He then moved on to made for television films and small parts in B-movies. Nolte’s entire career has been plagued with both his alcoholism and drug problems. Nolte has been romantically involved with a long list of Hollywood actresses and is currently divorced, has one son, and lives in Malibu, California.

Acting Career

Nolte is known for his athleticism, gravel and low-voiced characters, and being able to play a wide diversity of characters. Nolte has played roles in over 40 films and won various awards. Some of his first works include Dirty Little Billy, Who’ll Stop the Rain, Return to Macon County, and North Dallas Forty, all filmed during the 1970’s. Some well-known films he has produced include Hulk, Trixie, The Prince of Tides, and The Thin Red Line. He is currently working on five different films, all in different stages of development. These include Neverwas, Papa, The Rum Diary, Peaceful Warrior, and ‘’The Death of Harry Tobin.

Awards

Nolte has been recognized for his role in many of his films. He was voted best actor in 1991 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for his role in The Prince of Tides, which he also received a Golden Globe for that same year. In 1998, he was chosen by the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics as the best actor for his role in Affliction. He was also named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1992.
