The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is situated in the Dum Dum area of West Bengal and is the International airport for the city of Kolkata (Calcutta). It was originally known as Dum Dum airport but later renamed to honour the patriotic Indian, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who was born in Calcutta.

The airport is at a distance of about 17 kilometers from the city center. It used to be one of the busiest airports in whole of Asia. Presently, it is only a small airport that has the important domestic flights and a few international connections. The airport consists of three main terminals : a domestic terminal that started operations in the early 1990s, an international terminal which is the oldest and the third is a cargo terminal. Recently, the airport has been renovated which has made it one of the better airports of India.

The airport has two runaways, parallel to each other, 1 - 19 L/R. the longer of the two i.e. 1R/19L is mainly used for landings and takeoffs, the other being used primarily as a taxiway. The length of runway 01L/19R is 7,872 ft (2,400 m) with an Asphalt surface. The other runway 01R/19L measures 11,900 ft (3,627 m) in length and also has an Asphalt surface. The co-ordinates of the airport are 22°39′17″N and 88°26′48″E.
