The NBA has been around its inception on June 6, 1946. Back then it was called the Basketball Association of America. The league didn’t become the National Basketball Association until 1959 after it merged with its rival the National Basketball League.

Preseason
The preseason is typically 4 to 6 games that have no real purpose but to give a team time to get used to themselves ans a unit and for the coah to find the strengths and wekanesses within the his own team.
Regular Season
The regular season is comprised of 82 games. 41 of these games are at home and the other 41 or on the road. Each team will play the opposing conference teams only 2 times during the regular season and the remainder of the games in their own conference and division.
Only the top 8 teams per conference will advance to the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
Playoffs
The NBA Playoffs are composed of four best of seven rounds. In order to win this one team must win 4 of the 7 games over the other team. If they do so, then they advance to the next round, if not then they are eliminated and have completed their season.
This will continue until there are only two teams, the Western Conference Champion and the Eastern Conference Champion who then play in the NBA Finals for the championship. The winner of this series is the NBA Champion.
Currently there are 30 teams within the NBA league. These teams all stirve to be the best team in the league.
The Rest of the season
During the season there is also All Star weekend which comes just before the trae deadline. There is also the draft lottery for the teams that didn’t make the playoffs. This is where one team may win the top draft pick for that season.
