Mars completes its orbit of the zodiac in about two years. It is placed in the first and eighth houses in a star chart. The element fire rules Mars as per Chinese astrology.

The planet Mars is the symbol of authority, power and determination. People influenced by Mars tend to be aggressive in nature. The drive to succeed, ambition and competition are key characteristics. A sense of adventure and a taste of daring appeal to this planet. In an Aries, Mars denotes an aggressive nature and in Scorpio, a secretive one.

The energy emanated by Mars may be either positive or negative. A high level of energy, intense passion and a fearless nature are its positive features. The effects of Mars may be destructive in the sense that the person may be of violent nature coupled with a short temper. Nonetheless, these aspects can turn positive if correctly channeled.

A poorly placed Mars may result in accidents and surgeries. A brutally violent nature is also possible with no means to make the person understand the futility of his actions as he tends to be impossibly independent minded.
