Job hunting

From ArticleWorld

Job-hunting is a search for employment. The person hunting for a job may currently be employed, looking to improve his or her situation, or unemployed, looking for a job.

Process

Also known as job seeking, the goal is to obtain a job interview and ultimately get hired.

In order to do so, the seeker must employ a variety of means to find a job opening, often using an Internet-based job search engine, newspaper classifieds, recruiters or employment agencies or word of mouth. One can also cold call companies that they may be interested in working for.

After finding openings, one submits resumes (and usually a cover letter) to potential employers, which they use to determine the capability of the applicant in relation to the job requirements. A resume can be submitted via a Web site or e-mail, a fax machine or by conventional mail methods.

Once a resume is received by the employers, they will analyze a candidate's abilities in concern to their job requirements. They will then contact candidates they feel are a good match by phone or e-mail to arrange for a phone interview. If all goes well, they will arrange for the candidate to come for an initial interview, often followed by a second interview, in which more people in management participate.

Who job hunts?

A worker who is currently unemployed or unhappy in his or her position seeks a new job.

Job-hunting may also be a result of a change in the hunter’s interests or at the advice of a career counselor who thinks an employee may be better suited in a different field.
