How to perform a powerslide
From ArticleWorld
A powerslide in skateboarding is a turn, either a change of direction or a complete rotation. This method is only a guideline; feel free to alter it once you know what is best for you.
[edit]
Method
- When you begin this trick, your front foot should be near the front wheel bolts, and your back foot near the back wheel bolts.
- Once in this position, bend you elbows into your body. This is to help you keep your balance, since falling over in front of your mates may cause embarrassment.
- If you lead with the left foot (regular), swing your arms and shoulders to the right.
- If you lead with the right foot (goofy), swing your arms and shoulders to the left.
- Swing as hard as you need to complete the turn, whether 180 or 360.
- Carry on.

Hints
- Always keep your elbows bent in towards your body.
- Keep most of your weight in the centre of the board.
- Make sure that the middles of your feet are approximately in line with the bolts in your board.
- Don’t attempt in icy conditions. Turning on a board that is sliding at random isn’t a good idea. Go snowboarding instead.
- Make sure that your trucks (the metal attachments housing the board’s axles) are tightened. Do them specially, and replace them if you are not satisfied.
- Wear protective gear. Obviously.
Practice: you can never practice your skills enough. Even if you have been skateboarding for years, and think you know everything, you still should practice the basics every once in a while.
