How to do a cutback on a skateboard

From ArticleWorld

The cutback is another surfing move which has been converted into a skateboarding trick. The cutback is more suitable for those experienced in surfing, and is definitely not a trick for beginners.

Methods

  • You need to begin this trick at a fairly fast speed. Lower yourself down in a crouch as far as you can go, and prepare yourself. Be ready to touch your hand down; this should be the hand on the same side as your lead leg (eg. Regular, left; Goofy, right).
  • When you are ready, lean yourself back, and allow you legs to stick out, as far as you like. Remember to keep your feet in contact with the board, to ensure that you can control it.
  • Let the board turn slowly around, so that your legs tuck into your chest. You could find both of your hands are touching the ground. This is a good sign.
  • At this point, you should almost be centred back on the board.

Continue to practice this until you can do several in a ride. Watch the documentary Dogtown and Z-boys, as this will show you how the trick is properly worked.

Hints

  • Wear protective clothing. Your hands will become grazed after a while, and so you should wear gloves to protect them. You should also wear your helmet.
  • Keep trying. Nobody has made these moves without falling off several times. The more you practice, the closer you will be able to get with perfection.
