The United States Food Safety and Inspection Service is a health agency, responsible for ensuring the safety, and proper labeling, of our food. A unit of the United States Department of Agriculture, they regulate all meat, poultry, egg products, and fish, as well as any other consumable that contains more than 2-3% meat products.


Authorizing Statutes

FSIS operates under the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act, and the Egg Products Inspection Act. In addition to these, they must follow executive orders, small business protection laws and other guidance applicable to all Federal agencies.
