Water-borne diseases are those that arise from infected water, and are transmitted by drinking contaminated water, or cooking with the infected water. Examples of water-borne diseases include cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid. Cholera can be potentially lethal, and generally originates with contaminated water or improperly cooked shellfish. Typhoid is usually transmitted through infected water, or water that is contaminated with the feces of an infected person. Diarrhea, probably the most common water-borne disease, is the most common cause of death among infants, in third world countries.
