Mach is the name of an operating system kernel. It was developed at Carnegie Mellon University and is one of the first ever microkernel created. Richard Rashid was the lead developer of the project. Three versions of Mach were developed at the University of Utah and the latest was Mach 4.0. This system is still the basis for different applications: most known is MAC OS X which uses the XNU kernel.
