Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It is an ancient Middle East city and is located between the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The region was inhabited 3000 years BC. The city is mentioned in historical sources dating back from 2000 BC. The city became known when it became the capital of the Hebrew Kingdoms of Israel, Judah and Judea. This happened when King David choosed it as the capital and place of construction of the First Temple.
