Grunge is a musical genre and a subcategory of alternative rock. Inspiration for the music comes from heavy metal, hardcore punk and indie rock elements. The genre started to be commercialized in the early 1990s. Success was achieved between 1991 and 1994. Most of the bands that took in the genre were american and the music was closely linked with US Generation X. Grunge music was the first type of music to be different from the 1980s musics.
