A business chain is composed of a number of connected business locations that share a brand name and provide similar or the same [[product (business)|products and services. There are two main models of chain businesses. All locations of a chain can be owned by a single entity, with more or less extensive reliance on the same supply chains, standardized systems of personnel training, and centralized management. Franchises, on the other hand, work on a system of licensing, whereby individual business owners can use the brand name and other customer magnets in exchange for a licence fee and compliance with the basic offerings and branding philosophy of the franchiser.
