Two young man take jobs as herders on a sheep ranch in the sixties in Wyoming and fall in love. The story is told over many years about the nature of their relationship, the obstacles that they had to face, and about the continued love that they shared.
Plot
During the sixties, two men, Ennis Del Mar(Heath Ledger)and Jack Twist(Jake Gyllenhaal)work for a sheep herder near Brokeback Mountain, Wyoming. Soon, their friendship turns into a full-blown love affair. The affair continues over a long span of time.
When the summer ends, they go in different directions. In time, they both get married.
Resolution
Four years later, Jake informs Ennis that he is coming to Texas. Ennis does not want to continue any relationship because of the stigma of being gay, although he loves Jake.
Ennis had an unhappy marriage. He’s divorced but still close to his daughters.
Many years later, Ennis learns from Jake’s wife that Jake has died in an accident. But something tells him that his death was not accidental.
After his death, Ennis goes to see Jake’s parents because he wants to spread Jake’s ashes on Brokeback Mountain. His father refuses.
Ennis does notice that Jake kept the T-shirts that they wore when they first met in the sixties.
