Animal rights

From ArticleWorld

Animal rights involve the notion that non human animals have thoughts and feelings just like humans beings Therefore both human beings and non human animals should be treated the same way. In other words, human beings are not and should not be treated and viewed as superior to non human animals such as dogs and cats.

Views about the animal kingdom

Many views about the right way to treat non human animals have surfaced over the years. And, not surprisingly, many philosophers have expressed their views in regard to animal rights. Tom Regan, Peter Singer and Jeremy Bentham are some of the philosophers who talked about the ethical and moral rights of animals. Some of these philosophers’ views are controversial. For example, In Peter Singer’s book called Animal Liberation; he claims that human beings are not concerned about animal rights because of a term he called speciesism. The general idea behind speciesism is that human beings are so self centered that they believe that human beings are the only species that should matter. To be a bit less harsh, speciesism can also be the idea that while non human animals do matter to humans they don’t have the same faculties as humans. Therefore non human animals are not and should not be as important as humans. Therefore to talk about non human animals having rights is just absurd. People who believe dogs, cats, and other non human animals have right claim that they do suffer pain and pleasure and they are aware that they suffer both pain and pleasure.

The cause

Many people are vegetarians because they are firm believers in animal rights. They have seen how inhumanely animals have been treated over the years and refuse to eat meat and also refuse to wear anything that is created out of the skin or any part animals. PETA is very active in the fight for animal rights Bob Baker is a big supporter of animal rights because he asks people to be responsible and spade and neuter their animals. In addition, Pamela Anderson has asked people not to eat Kentucky Fried Chicken because the chickens that the company uses are treated unethically.
