Angora Wool has two definitions. They are both based on two Angora animals (the Angora goat and the Angora rabbit) and angora wool can be a mohair (if obtained from Angora goat) or a fabric (if taken from Angora rabbit). The name “Angora” is actually a city of Ankara, Turkey. It is a region renowned for its the different animal breeds characteristic.

The most difficult part in obtaining Angora wool stands in the spinning to transform it from wool to thread. Angora rabbit spinning is the oldest method developed for obtaining fabrics and has been developed around 2000 years ago. Some people have problems in spinning the wool because it usually flies around, causing discomfort for people with allergies and others. The trade of angora wool spinning has been transmitted from generation to generation and nowadays technology is giving a helping hand thanks to mass production possibilities.

Different techniques are used for spinning angora wool:

  • As a pure fiber
  • Onto a core yarn
  • By blending it with sheep’s wool or other similar materials.
