Alcohol

Amber ales have medium-high to high saltiness with medium to low caramel character. This is a reason why they have been known also as malt liquor. This type of drink is also typically high alcohol, usually ranging from five percent of to 12 percent. There have been even a couple rarer ones that have been as high as 15 percent or 16 percent.

body

They usually have medium to medium-high body. The style may have a slight fruity (estery) flavor and aroma. The butter-like influences of diacetyl may be barely perceived.

haze

A little haze from yeast is acceptable for bottle-conditioned products. If you go to a bar and order one of these you can see the haze that is common with the drinks. Some people a hard time with this, however, this is normal for ales.

distribution

Commercial examples include Full Sail Amber Ale and Red Tail Ale. These types of beers are also gaining popularity in parts of Canada and they have begun introducing these two parts of Europe.

tidbits

Ales and malts have a couple traditional brands, but they are very well-known to have smaller brand names that are usually regional in sales. The advantage with this is that some areas will have drinks that are highly desirable; the common problem with this though is that if you're not in that region it is almost impossible to get that drink.
