Alpha Blitz

From ArticleWorld

Alpha Blitz the creation of Mike Selinker, is a Word game published by Wizards of the Coast. Gameplay is split into two parts.

Alpha

Alpha is the part of the game where players simply take a letter card in their hand and swap it with one on the table. There are 10 blitz cards in the game that allow a player to eliminate a letter on the table from gameplay.

The players then use the letters on the table to make the longest possible word combinations. When there are only two remaining letter piles showing, the game ends.

Scoring is simple. One point per letter, except for the red-bordered cards which give a bonus.

Blitz

Blitz is the part of the game where all players act at the same time, each having two letter piles at their disposal. In this portion of the game, once a word is spotted the player saying the word first gets a point (there are bonus letters too) and then is no longer in play. The next word to be said must have one more letter than the last, etc. until no more words are found.

The game ends when there are no letters left in a players two letter piles.

This game was named 1998 Game of the Year by Games Magazine.
