V for Vendetta is a 2006 action-thriller film set in London in a not-too-distant future. It is based on the comic book series based on the conceptual art of Alan Moore and David Lloyd.

Plot

The film follows V, the freedom fighter that uses terrorist tactics in the pursuit of a personal vendetta and to for change in the Britain that is depicted in the series.

The not too distant future is one that has been tainted and turned foul by the High Chacenllor at the time. He had just released Norsefire upon the unsuspecting and caused the deaths of countless instigating the means of his coming to power. This was both his source of power and the birth of V and his gain for a purpose to vengeance.

The film shows much of the brutality that has been in the comic books and has also shown the style that is unique to the comics and to V.

Direction

Alan Moore wouldn’t endorse the movie do to conflicts with the record label, but the movie is based on his creation save for less anarchy symbolism. This movie is directed by James McTeigue and produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers. The screenplay is also written by the Wachowski brothers. This makes 4 movies that the brothers, Joel Silver and Hugo Weaving have done together (this is also including the Matrix movies).

Stars

The film stars Hugo Weaving as V, Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond, Stephen Rea as Inspector Finch and John Hurt as Chancellor Sutler. These are the core players, but like any movie there are always more.


Release

The film was originally slated for November 5, 2005, but was delayed. Instead the film has opened on March 17, 2006. It has been generally well received by critics.
