Rogue planet

From ArticleWorld

A Rogue Planet is a planet that has either rotated on an odd orbital plane around a central star or one that does not orbit around a star at all. A planet that does not adhere to an orbital pattern around a star is called an interstellar planet. Something to note is that the definition of the word planet includes the idea of rotation around a central star, so scientists consider the idea of a rogue star contrary to the nature of planets, as they have been historically defined.

Some scientists define rogue planets differently, and according to their definition, rogue planets are actually very close in similarity with the planets in the Earth’s solar system. Those scientists attach a definition to the word planet that focuses not on the destination of the object, but rather on the origin of such an object.

In accordance with the latter definition of planet, it is assumed that some planets are actually terrestrial planets or brown dwarfs that have broken away from their own orbital patterns. Therefore, it is also considered possible for a rogue planet to be “captured” by another system.
