Resident Evil is a film that is based on the popular Capcom game with the same name, yet that is almost all that they have in common. Umbrella in both is the guilty culprit and some of the characters are the same, yet the movies has introduced Alice who is not one of the characters from the game series.

Plot Overview
The movie begins by giving the base setting of what the Umbrella Corporation is, and shows what the hive is. This proves to be useful as the movie progresses, for the movie runs its course through the Hive then concludes in the mansion once more.
An elite force and one environmentalist are introduced and enter the hive via the train with Alice. One other character is added on the train. As it turns out both he and Alice are affected with memory loss as part of the Hive’s defenses. The Hive is governed by an AI called the Red Queen which is fashioned after the programmer’s daughter.
Red Queen
The perception of the Red Queen is that she has gone bad and has killed everyone in the Hive, this is later found as not right entirely as she does manage to kill most of the elite forces herself.
As it turns out she locked the Hive down due to a containment breach with the T Virus.
T Virus
The T Virus is an experimental application that has the ability of regenerating damaged cells, unfortunately, it is unstable and tend to also re animate the dead.
Reboot
The characters reboot here systems only to have all the monstrosities in the Hive released. This includes a pack of Dobermans that are transformed. The red queen is eventually brought back online when it is discovered what lurks in the Hive now.
The process of the movie is the characters must flee the Hive in a given timeframe or be trapped in the Hive with the dead. This is posing another problem as one of Umbrella’s special monsters, a Licker, is freed and used as a trump card by the Red Queen.
The Train
In the process of leaving the Hive, they fry the Red Queen, and lose one character to the Licker. By the time that they get to the Mansion, two more have fallen to the Licker and Alice has defeated it in turn.
Aftermath
Umbrella intervenes when the two last characters get out. One is inducted into the Project Nemesis and Alice is contained and brought into Raccoon City facilities. The end of the movies shows that somehow the virus has been freed and is running amuck through the city. Alice prepares for the oncoming situation.
Overview
The movie was set up for a sequel and there are supposed to be up to four total movies in this series which will show the course of Umbrellas down fall.
Many fans were disappointed that the characters and the plot varied in this movie from the game. Many fans also were disappointed that only one of the Tyrant class creatures was shown.
The movie held one record that no other movie may ever beat, this was the first movie where cosmetic applications of this level were added to a canine.
