History

RadioShack had its beginning in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, United States in the year 1921. It was established by Theodore and Milton Deutschmann and was initially known as Radio Hut. It expanded into nine stores until the 1960s and was bought in 1963 by Tandy Corporation, which itself was established in 1919. It began marketing personal computers in 1977, and was one of the first companies to do so. Two hundred thousand pieces were sold in just four years. This helped in increasing the popularity of PCs among the masses. Initially, Tandy’s computers were non-standard; the first standard IBM computers were introduced by it in 1984. It began to sell off its PC manufacturing facilities in the 1990s and renamed itself as RadioShack Corporation in 2000.
