Plot

A husband and wife work as assassins for two competing agencies, but they are not aware of it. They have no clue of each others secret life. On the surface, they live bland, boring middle-class lives, as professionals. All is well until they are each assigned the task of destroying each other.

John Smith (Brad Pitt)and Mrs. Smith (Angelina Jolie)are typical suburbanites. She’s a computer entrepreneur and he’s a construction contractor. They’re successful, but bored. And they are both assassins for hire who work for rival agencies. But they’re not aware of each other’s double lives. Everything goes crazy when they learn the secret and are assigned the task of killing each other.

Angry, they begin a silent war thinking each one has used the other, not out of love, but because of advantage of cover for their secret lives.

Resolution

Once they become aware that the other has been given a contract to kill the other, they go for revenge, anyway. The bitterness of false pretenses takes over. It becomes a clash with each one trying to outdo the other. There’s plenty of exploding bombs, gunfire and near miss, breathtaking, car chase scenes.

Meanwhile, their cool, placid, suburban lives endure. Through it all, they endeavor to keep their strategy from each other. Home life is tense, as they seek marriage counseling about whether they really love each other. They have mutual suspicion about their motives.

Finally, they dispose of each others assassin teams. They come to an understanding with each other, and develop trust in their marriage.
