How to turn off the Clipboard Toolbar in Microsoft Office

From ArticleWorld

One of Microsoft's most cursed invention is the Clipboard Toolbar. When you copy something into the clipboard, this toolbar will be turned on. It is rarely usable though, and, the truth is, it is just annoying. The only thing it really does is force you to interrupt your work to turn it off.

Here is how to completely turn it off.

Steps

In Office XP and later:

  1. Open any Office application (Word, Excel... whatever you like better).
  2. Go to Tools, Options, and enter the Edit tab. Un-check Show Paste Options buttons and Show Insert Options buttons. Click OK.

In Office 2000:

  1. Close all Office applications.
  2. Go to Start, Run and run regedit.exe.
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Office\ 9.0\ Common\ General . If you find that some of these folders do not exist, you can safely create them, just make sure you do not do spelling mistakes.
  4. Go to Edit, New, DWORD Value. This will ask you for a name. enter AcbControl.
  5. Double-click on AcbMenu. This will pop up a new window. Select Decimal as the type and, in the Value Data field, enter 1. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
