How to persuade your parents to allow you to do up your room

From ArticleWorld

To persuade your parents to allow you to do up your room will require some major convincing on your part especially if your parents think that your room is just right the way it is. They may have done up your room when you were toddler and even though you have outgrown the décor your parents obviously think that it is perfect for a child (read you) not realizing that you are way beyond the child stage. Here are some helpful hints to help them reconsider their decision and allow you to redecorate your room.

A few suggestions

  1. First you yourself need to be sure of the reasons of wanting to redecorate your room before convincing your parents to allow you to do so. Is it too childish or is it that you are tired of the old wall paper and ancient cabinets. Be sure that you want it only if the room is going to remain yours for all times, if it going to go to your younger sibling when you graduate to another room then there is little need to go to all the trouble of revamping.
  2. Once you have convinced yourself, you can go ahead and convince your parents. On a graph paper make a blue print of the room according to scale along with all the permanent furniture. Make a list of all the changes that you intend to make to the room and put them down according to priority.
  3. Make an approximate cost budget of the different changes and show them along side in your list.
  4. Get the names and cards of all the business people whose help you will need to do the work.

Do’s

  • Take the help of one of those soft wares where you can feed the dimensions of the room and get a 3D image of the room on the screen with all the projected changes. Make a power point presentation to your parents.
  • Offer to pay for a part of the budget from your allowance.

Don’ts

  • Don’t get into an argument with your parents about the whole issue, if your idea has been shot down accept their decision gracefully and let the matter go.
