How to improve your typing skills

From ArticleWorld

Keyboards are arguably not exactly the fastest input devices ever invented, but they do their job well. If you have to write a lot, good typing skills (speed and accuracy) are essential.

Here are the steps to take in improving your speed and accuracy.

Steps

  1. If you have not yet used a keyboard for too long, forget about QWERTY and get a DVORAK keyboard. QWERTY keyboards were designed in the 19th century, when typists were writing so fast that mechanical typewriters would get stuck. QWERTY keyboards were essentially created to make typing slower.
  2. Get a typing tutor. There are thousands of them available on the Internet, and they work quite well.
  3. Like with anything else, just write. Try to use the computer as much as possible and write even things that you would normally use a pen for, like shopping lists.
  4. Learn how the keys are positioned. With time and practice, you will be able to type without looking at they keyboard. This is extremely helpful, since you can look at what you are typing while doing it. This way, you will be able to correct your mistakes easier and faster.
  5. If your keyboard shows signs of tiredness, clean it. If it does not help and still feels unresponsive, change it.

Notes

Do note that a lot of typing in bad positions can cause CTS. You may want to check the guide about how to avoid the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) here on ArticleWorld.
