How to export an Outlook Express address book

From ArticleWorld

Things go wrong with computers sometimes, and, if you are depending on it for your contact list, you may end up losing your entire address book in a disk crash. This is why your Outlook address book should be one of the first candidates for a backup.

Although you can use Outlook's native format, the CSV format ensures that you can use it in other applications as well. Therefore, you will get a safe copy of your address book, which you can use with another program if you decide to get rid of Outlook Express.

Here is how to export the Outlook Express address book to a CSV file.

Steps

  1. Open Outlook Express and go to File, Import, Address Book. Select Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book as the type and double-click the address book you wish to use.
  2. Now go to File, Export, Address Book. This will open a new windows.
  3. Select Text File (Comma Separated Values) as the type and click Export. Click Export and select a location and a name for your address book.
  4. Click Next and select the fields you want to export. If you are not sure, select all and click Finish.

Note

CSV files are really plain-text files with values separated (as the format's name says) by commas.
