Gucci was born in Italy and he became an Italian fashion designer in 1921 when he opened the House of Gucci. But, his business started as a leather goods company. Later the company became both a fashion and leather goods company that was located in Florence, Italy. Gucci became quite famous when he designed and created a bamboo handle handbag.

Boss Gucci

Many people worked for Guccio Gucci but he wasn’t an easy boss to work for or with. For example, when the company became the Gucci Group, Tom Ford worked for the Gucci Group until he and Gucci had creative disputes. Then, Tom Ford quit the Gucci Group and set up his fashion business. At the turn of the century, there were the following people:

  • Alessandra Facchinetti: She was Gucci’s Creative Director of Women’s Wear until 2002 when she and Guccio Gucci had creative difference.
  • John Ray: He was the Creative Director of Men’s Wear until 2004 when he and Guccio Gucci had a fight about management decisions and John Ray quit the Gucci Group. Even though, Guccio Gucci was hard to work with and for, he was a very artistic and well known Italian fashion designer. He made haute couture fashions for Jackie Kennedy, who was the wife of President John F. Kennedy.
