Serology refers to a blood test which measures the presence of antibodies in the blood. Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in reaction to foreign invaders such as viruses and by detecting their presence in the blood, serologists are able to determine the presence of disease. Serum protein electrophoresis is a laboratory test used by serologists which examines the proteins in the blood called globulins.
