With the massive infusion of people into South Africa, the two main folks styles of music, marabou and kwela, were fused into one solid style that gained popularity among the immigrated masses. This new style was called, Mbaqanga, and it is typically based on stories of a hero called, Mahlathini. These stories gained acclaim in the people that lived in South African and have spread to a minor extent. Many of the performers of this style of folk music make very little money, but gain a great deal of enjoyment that can’t be placed in a monetary value.
