Much of the music that became industrial has to give its thanks to the death of punk music. Many of the aggressive bands found a unique genre in industrial as did many other bands. Industrial is a meshing of thes other genres: heavy metal/hard rock, new wave, and punk. The end result is an aggressive style of music that has strong ties in synthesizers, sampling, and distortions.

In today’s music, industrial music is in two base groups. A techno based offshoot and another one that seems to be reverting back to its roots.
