Cameron Diaz is a model-turned-actress who has starred in such films as There's Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich and Charlie's Angels. Cameron Michelle Diaz was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California. She is the only daughter of Emilio Diaz and Billie Early

Career

Diaz began her career at the age of 16 when she got a job with Elle modeling agency. She worked in the modeling world for the next several years. In 1993, Cameron decided to try her hand at acting. She scored a part in the 1994 box office hit, The Mask alongside funnyman, Jim Carrey. It was this movie that started her on the road to stardom as a movie actress.

Subsequent roles followed – one most notably as Julia Roberts’ “nemesis” in My Best Friend’s Wedding where she played the fiancée of the man that Julia Roberts’ character wanted to marry. She hit the top at the box office with the Farelly Brothers’ directed There’s Something About Mary.” This role undoubtedly solidified her status as a movie star.

In 1999, she received award nominations for her role in Being John Malkovich and wowed the critics with her performance in Any Given Sunday.

Other hit movies followed, including former television show, made-for-the-big screen effort Charlie’s Angels (2000), Shrek (where she provided the voice of Shreks lady love, Fiona), and Vanilla Sky (2001) where she co-starred with Tom Cruise.

Unfortunately things began to run downhill for Diaz. Performances rendered in several box office flops, yielded a huge hit for her career. Finding a success at the box office became near impossible. However, she did come close to moderate success in 2004 when she reprised her role as the voice of Fiona in Shrek II.

Controversy

Diaz is no stranger to controversy, which unfortunately has also taken a toll on her career. She is quite outspoken on her stance in support of the pro-choice movement and the Democratic Party. She has also had run-ins, along with current beau, Justin Timberlake, with the paparazzi.

She was found literally with “her pants down” in an S & M video shot when she was just 19 years old. The film resurfaced in 2004, thus serving another blow to her career. Diaz has since filed suit against the distributor of the video.
