Biologist

From ArticleWorld

Biologists, as the name suggests, are individuals that study life with the purpose of determining the biology of the organisms. Biology is, in fact, a very large area of study. Many biologists attempt to understand the relationship of organisms to their environment and to each other. Others try to determine how organisms work as well as their origins. The goals of biologists though often varied all seek to reveal valuable knowledge about life-forms. This information is of use in the medical and industrial fields and too many other fields as well.

Types of biologists

As this field is much diversified often it is necessary to focus on a few areas of study. This is what is done by many biologists. Though they cannot be classified in one particular field as there is much overlap many biologists are qualified in more than one area of biology. A major classification method is the sorting of biology into topics dealing with the microscopic and the macroscopic.

Some of the fields of study include:

  • Animals
  • Biochemistry
  • Cellular
  • Ecology
  • Entomology
  • Genetic

Biologists training

The majority of employment opportunities in the biological field require the attainment of a degree in a biological discipline. These degrees are generalized at the undergraduate level however specializations are available at a post graduate level. It is a requirement that for most research the individual have a doctorate but a degree is sufficient for most other areas of biology.
