Arithmancy

From ArticleWorld

Arithmancy is the ancient art of divination practiced by Chaldeans and Greeks. It is the process of telling the future by analyzing names and their numerical equivalents. Its dates back to over two thousand years. Its usage is primarily to evaluate one’s strengths and weaknesses and secondly to divine future occurrences.

History

Ancient Chaldeans believed in Arithmany. They had a unique concept for this art. They segregated their alphabet into three parts. Each part comprised seven letters which they assigned to the seven planets known to them. They used this calculation to make predictions.

The Greeks also practiced arithmancy, albeit differently. They calculated the value of letters in a person’s name. Comparing the values of the names of two warriors, they predicted the winner. The one with the higher value would win.

Method

The most popular form of arithmancy divides the letters of the alphabet and assigns it a number from 1 to 9.

  • 1 – A, J, S
  • 2 – B, K, T
  • 3 – C, L, U
  • 4 – D, M, V
  • 5 – E, N, W
  • 6 – F, O, X
  • 7 – G, P, Y
  • 8 – H, Q, Z
  • 9 – I, R.

The three main numbers calculated from a person’s name, character number, heart number and social number.

The character number is believed to represent an individual’s personality, his positive and negative aspects, presence etc.

The heart number is calculated as a reduced total of vowels in a person’s name. It indicates one’s desires, the heart’s innermost longings and its deepest fears.

The social number is calculated as a reduced total of consonants in a person’s name. It represents the outer face of an individual, the one he shows to the world.

It is also believed that arithmancy can predict favorable and unfavorable days for an individual. Favorable days are those whose numbers correspond to the character number of a person.
