The term Furniture can be collectively used to describe objects that support the human body, provide storage facilities or hold objects on horizontal surfaces. Furniture is usually movable in nature.

Support furniture would ideally include all seating furniture like sofas, couches and chairs and also beds. Storage furniture examples are cabinets, cupboards and wardrobes. Such furniture mainly contains drawers, shelves and doors and is used to keep smaller objects like clothes, shoes, books, crockery etc. These are its functional and practical uses.

Sometimes, furniture is also used for decoration purposes and hence becomes a form of decorative art. Furniture is also not only used for functional and decorative purposes but also has symbolic and religious uses. A combination of furnishings and domestic furniture works like clocks and lighting, serve to create a comfortable atmosphere conducive to human habitation.
