In Western Astrology the Earth sign is said to consist of the trinity of the Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn constellations. It symbolizes a practical mind, a stable nature and solidarity.

Characteristics

According to astrological beliefs, people under the earth sign possess certain distinguishing characteristics.

• Positive – The people born under the earth sign are said to be highly reliable. They are very cautious by nature. On a professional level, they rise to positions of power by sheer hard work and determination. Their sincerity is their forte. Passion is inherent and they prove to be excellent friends. They will stand by a person in his times of trouble. Loyalty is an innate quality and hence they are good marriage partners. They strongly stand up for their traditional values, when needed.

• Negative – People with the Earth sign are usually very materialistic. They have a small mind and are nearly incapable of thinking objectively. They do not have an active social life as they concentrate more on achievement of goals. They are introverts by nature and hence do not make friends easily. This quality may sometimes make others wrongly feel that they are egoistic. Those who have hardly any planets in their earth sign are unlikely to understand the priorities of life. Those with most planets in the earth sign tend to be highly obstinate.

Compatibility

People with earth signs are irresistibly drawn to those of the Water sign. This is because they are similar in matters of self-protectiveness and covetousness. They feel that they shall receive nourishment and water signs feel that they provide the much needed emotional security. However, earth signs do not always share the ideologies of the water signs, dismissing them as impractical and far-fetched.

History

In archaic times, earth signs were associated with the seasons and hence would be allotted the natural zodiac hierarchy. The earth sign, therefore, corresponded to the spring season. By this reasoning, it was associated with the zodiacs of Aries, Taurus and Gemini.
