A physician is a specially-trained individual who carries the credentials to practice medicine on humans. In most developed countries a regulatory body decides which physicians are allowed to practice medicine. Physicians with mental health problems, behavioral issues or addiction issues may not be licensed until they are well. Physicians generally take training following a four-year college degree; however, in some countries, the training can begin at the undergraduate level. Physicians often specialized after medical school in one or more areas of medicine.
