Nuclear technology refers to the technology related to the use of phenomena taking place in atomic nuclei, namely fission, fusion and radioactive decay. Fission reactions can be used to generate power. Fusion is used in hydrogen bombs. Radiation due to decay of unstable isotopes of elements is used in a number of fields like medical diagnosis, biochemical analysis and industrial radiography. Nuclear technology is also used by governments of powerful nations to create “nuclear deterrence” by manufacturing dangerous nuclear weapons in order to check conflicts.
