Information science refers to the interdisciplinary academic field that involves the generation, collection, synchronization, storage, retrieval and distribution of recorded facts. This may not necessarily be synonymous with library science, though it is related with it. The concepts of information science are extremely important in most fields of knowledge. Scientists and medical doctors, for example, usually find themselves overwhelmed by vast floods of information. With thousands of studies being conducted simultaneously around the world, it becomes necessary to organize information with careful attention to relevance and reliability.
