India is a vastly diverse country with a rich and varied culture and traditions, which is reflected in its assortment of multilingual, and ethnically varied collection. Broadly, Indian literature can be classified as Aryan, Dravidian, and Indian English Literature. It is also possible to further include regional segments of literature in the canvass that is the Indian literature. Aryan literature is generally found in north India and is in Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu languages. Dravidian literature is the literature found in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam dialects. However there is a lot of interpolation between the two forms and a large influence of romance, philosophy, spirituality and religion is found in Indian literature. One interesting feature is that for many centuries, many works have been handed down from generation to generation orally.
