Alexander McQueen was born in London in the year 1969. He is the son pf a taxi driver. Alexander started making dresses for his three sisters when he was very young. He also knew at a very young age that he wished to be a fashion designer.

Early career

Alexander first landed himself an apprenticeship with a top fashion designer named Savile Row. While working there, Alexander McQueen designed clothes for Charles who is the Price of Wales. At 20, he applied to Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in pursuit of a Master’s Degree. And he was admitted to the college because the admissions office liked his portfolio.

Even before he opened his own studio, Alexander McQueen earned a “bad boy” reputation and was labeled “The Terrible Infant.” Because of a clothing collection he named Highland Rape. He also caused quite a stir when at a 1998 fall fashion show, robots sprayed paints all over some cotton dresses.

Alexander’s accomplishments

McQueen’s honors include being one of the youngest designers to be named British Designer of the Year. And, he has gotten this honor four times through the nineties and the beginning of the decade. He was also named the International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. In 2000, McQueen became a partner with the Gucci Group and has 51 percent of the company. He has served as its creative director. In 2005, Alexander McQueen created a line of sneakers for Puma.
